Título: Update: Permanent Residents & Vehicle Rules in the Free

Updated: 18 hours ago

Dear Clients and Baja Community,

We had a productive conversation with Hank, CEO of BajaBound. As leaders in the Baja insurance industry, we are both deeply committed to providing accurate, verified information to our clients.

We discussed the recent concerns regarding Permanent Residents driving foreign-plated vehicles in the Free Zone. While strict interpretations of the written law suggest restrictions, the practical application and legal nuances in the Free Zone are complex and open to interpretation.

What does this mean for you?

We have decided to pause on issuing a definitive "warning" until we have absolute clarity. We do not want to cause unnecessary alarm or provide advice based on an incomplete interpretation of the regulations.

We want to thank Hank and the team at Baja Bound for their collaboration. It is our shared goal to protect the expat community, not to confuse it.

We will share a confirmed, factual update as soon as the investigation concludes.

At your service,

Ricardo Huerta

Thank you. I am very interested in hearing what your recommendations are. Our car is a 2023 and as permanent residents who live full time in BCS, we are very concerned that we cannot legally import it due to its age. We we temporary residents when we purchased the car, so our change in status, coupled with the age of our car, has us in a pickle. Thanks.
